After eleven years of training in BGS sports centre; Kamons training studio finally gets a face lift.
The Bristol Kamon Wing Chun, which holds twice-weekly training sessions at the Bristol Grammar School Sports Centre in Clifton, has been going since 1997 and, says the club's founder and instructor, Wayne Bradbury, it only seems like yesterday that we started to train here and I had not realised how time has taken its toll on our venue. The new studio has newly installed sprung floor and floor to ceiling mirrors. It may seem strange, but having mirrors helps students to perfect their technique, before we had to rely on our reflection in the window! During the time Kamon have been teaching in Bristol over sixty of the students, women and men, have had to defend themselves in situations ranging from unwanted attention in a night club, an attempted theft of a bike whilst the student was still riding it, to an attack by five against one!It is sad fact of todays life; that violence is so prevalent, however all the students were successful in dealing with the situation says Wayne. There are now three Kamon clubs in Bristol, at Clifton, Bradley Stoke and in Southville, with the other two clubs set up by Wayne Bradburys senior students.
